Mercury is commonly used in amalgam dental fillings and poses the greatest health risk to children, as well as pregnant mothers and their fetus.

The FDA, following pressure from many health groups, released a warning on their Web site stating “Dental amalgams contain mercury which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous system of developing fetuses and children.”

Pregnant women are being advised to seek alternative treatments and to avoid the mercury altogether.
