After a decade of working abroad, designer Karishma Krishna will make her debut at this year’s MTN Durban Fashion Week.

Krishna, 33, of Verulam, who returned to her home town this year, will show her latest range, An Enlightened State of Zen, at fashion week.

“My colours are bold and fused with pastel shades, and my inspiration comes from believing that my brand can create the feeling of being different and noticed,” he said.

Fashion week will also feature leading international and local designers, including Rohit Bal, Neeta Lulla, Tarun Tahiliani and Gavin Rajah.

“I love travelling, and I think there is something incredibly romantic about the whole ritual of travel- ling and arriving at a new place.”

He said his collection was inspired by a woman travelling on her own and finding love.

“This season sees relaxed tailoring in cotton blends, knitted silk/cotton pieces for balmy evenings, cotton and silk voile dresses, swimwear, the softest leather and the Rajah cocktail and evening ensembles. ”

He described the collection, with its silk, satin, lightweight mohair and knitted bamboo, as “indulgent and for a woman who oozes self-confidence. The season also includes a few separate pieces for men.”
